The Types of image sensors are as various as cameras in mobile phones,
digital cameras, pc cameras, security cameras, medical equipment, camcorders, and optical mice.
Recently, market demand is increasing for image sensors in mobile phones and digital cameras,
therefore highly efficient image sensors are an inevitable by-product.
Manufacturers of mobile phones with cameras such as Nokia, Motorola, and Anycall by Samsung,
generally adopted CMOS and CCD methods for their image sensors.
The strength of CCD is superior sensitivity but their weakness is high production cost and
high power consumption. On the other hand, CMOS is mainly utilized low quality image sensors due to
its advantages of lower power consumption and production costs, even though they make more noise and have
lower sensitivity. Consequently, CMOS is expected to replace CCD continually. |

| Although CMOS type image sensors
take advantage of the characteristics
above, its poor sensitivity must be
improved. We, Planet82, have developed
a high density, high-sensitivity,
subminiature (minimized unit pixel),
very low power consumption, higher
performance SMPD type image sensor
based on nano structural technology
we possess.
Using nano-image sensors, we could
improve the functions of previous
mobile phone cameras, adopt technology
for medical devices incorporated with
biotechnology and military equipment.
In addition, we also expect that our
nano-image sensor will become a key
technology for high value-added products
such as automobile rearview image
sensor and could be applied to a commercializing
technique for portable terminals such
as the IMT 2000.
